Gates and railings connect workshop work to real site conditions. A clear record helps both the fabricator and the installation team work from the same information.
One missing site detail can follow the job
A workshop may fabricate accurately and still arrive on site with a system that does not fit. Uneven openings, an unexpected slope, poor supports or a changed drawing can create problems that were never recorded during the visit.
Record the opening as it actually is
Measure the width at the top, middle and bottom, and the height at the left, center and right. Record both diagonals, levels and ground conditions. State the units on the report. Keep the original measurements; do not automatically turn the smallest number into a fabrication dimension without resolving the design clearances and tolerances.
Connect photographs to the job record
Name photographs by job and viewpoint so another person can understand them later. A front view, support detail and ground-level image may answer different questions. Record the filenames in the report and keep the original images and sketches in the same job folder.
Record what the customer confirmed
Include the drawing number and revision, finish, hardware, inclusions, exclusions and work by others. A short note about an assumption is better than leaving the installation crew to discover it. Assign unresolved items to a responsible person with a clear follow-up date.
Carry the record into installation
